What is a student account?
Just as the name is, it is an account that is meant for only students between the ages bracket of 16 to 28. Although only a few banks in Nigeria limit the age to 13, which means that the age may differ in other banks.
Note that this student account was first introduced in the Nigerian banking sector some years back to help the students in Nigeria to save money for their schooling.
Remember, this account type is quite different from savings and current bank account since you can use your school ID for opening the student account in Nigeria.
This simply means that to open a student account in Nigeria, the student must have a school ID and the account opening is free. But applicants will be charged for debit cards that is if they choose to, which is compulsory for every student to have a naira debit card.

The Access Bank Student Account Limits
The Access Bank student account limit is N300k (three hundred thousand naira). Note that this amount can’t be exceeded unless it is upgraded by the student to a tier two or tier three account.
Although some other banks such as the Zenith bank have a maximum limit of N1M (one million naira). However, it must first be upgraded to the tier two bank account.
But in general, the Access Bank student account limit is N300k. But you should be aware that banks have the right at any time to increase or decrease their student account limits.
Requirement To Open Access Bank Student Account Limits
Note that as a student, you really don’t need much to open a bank account, after all, you are just a student opening an account without any help from your parent. Below are the major requirements:
You need a Passport ID:
Owning any account in Nigeria requires at least two passports. However, most banks prefer the one with a red background, while others don’t. Though you can still go with any background of your choice.
But a lot of banks out there did not specify any background color. This means that you can go with red, white, purple, or any random colors that will not deprive you of your student accounts. They just need the two passports for easy account opening.
You need a Photo ID:
As you know, you need at least two forms of photo ID, which could be a student ID, your departmental or faculty ID. You can still use your N.Y.S.C Identity card or your school admission letter.
But note that you are required of two different types of ID for clearance. However, you must first come with a student or school ID, your school admission letter. This will serve as proof of student status.
You can still submit a letter of acceptance from your school, but the admission letter might serve that purpose better.
You need a completed application form:
A lot of banks now allow you to apply for a student bank account online, but you will still have to send them the supporting documents via email or take them to the branch near you. Please note that documents must be original copies and not photocopies.
