How to fill a GTBank Reference form
Bank reference forms are documents that attest that a customer is known by someone in the approved category of the bank and supported to access any of the bank facilities. Bank’s reference forms are actually in two parts. While the customer has to get someone to fill the referee form, they still have to fill a portion of it as well and add their signature.
If you go to any GTBank branch to open a current account, you will be given some forms to fill, among them will be the reference form. Although you will not be required to fill them out immediately, you can obtain the form from the bank.
The form can also be downloaded from the company website. Visit the GTBank website and you’ll find the form among many others. Download and fill them out before taking them to the bank. When you get the GTBank reference form, you’ll find that the form is addressed to “The manager Guaranty Trust Bank Plc.”
The reference form consists of two parts: the first part is for the intending customer. In this part, you will fill in your name as the intending current account owner.
The second part of the reference form is for the person that wants to stand in for you as a referee. The person is to confirm that they have known you for a certain period and they will also need to acknowledge that you are opening a current account. It is also required that they be current account holders as well to qualify to be your referee and sign your reference firm.
Also, your referee will also provide the bank name and account number of their bank it is expected to be a current account. If the person also uses GTBank, it will take a shorter time to process its verification.
However, phone numbers, names, addresses, dates, and signatures are required after providing this information. This personal contact information is required when filling out the bank reference form because the referees are expected to have established a personal relationship with the bank customer before filling them. The task of guiding them to fill the reference form rests mainly with the bank customer as the form is for account creation. It is important to choose the right customers when filling your reference.
Two categories of bank account holders are disqualified from standing as referees for intending current account holders.
- Those with current accounts lesser than 6 months. As much as you want your reference form to be filled out. It is not everyone that is qualified to fill it.
- Also, the current account holder must have operated that account for a period not less than 6 months. This will build their credibility before your bank.
- There are different types of bank accounts that people operate but having a current account requires that you provide a salary account owner as your reference. That means the person going to fill out your reference form must be a salary account holder.
What are bank reference forms used for?
The bank reference form shows that you have been loyal to the bank for a certain period within which you have not defaulted in any way. Bank loan defaulters are those that have obtained a loan in the bank or other financial entities but did not meet up with payment as when due. Such categories of persons may not be qualified to fill a bank reference form. Although it is impossible to know this before they fill the form, the burden will be on the customer intending to use the form because GTBank will not accept a referee that is not eligible to fill the form.
